Memorial Funds

The Outing Club has six memorial funds which have been established to commemorate those special persons who had a love for the OC and all it contributes to the community. Donations may be made to any fund in any amount.

Honoring Bob Andrews, a devoted champion of youth sports and community recreation. Born on Sept. 26, 1960, Bob dedicated his life to inspiring and empowering others through athletics and education. As a coach, teacher, and recreational director, he embodied enthusiasm, expertise, and kindness. This fund celebrates his legacy by supporting:

  • Scholarships for youth to participate in sports, regardless of financial need
  • Training for volunteer soccer coaches and officials

Bob’s impact on our community is immeasurable, and this fund ensures his spirit of inclusivity, motivation, and joy continues to inspire future generations.

Honoring Ellie and Bud Barton, devoted community members and loyal supporters of the The Outing Club. Ellie, a talented athlete and dedicated secretary, and Bud, an enthusiastic supporter, created a welcoming home for their children’s friends and contributed to the OC’s growth. This fund, established in their memory, supports special needs and initiatives, continuing their legacy of community spirit and youth development.

Walt Chadwick | 1924 – 2004
Virginia “Ginny” Chadwick | 1923 – 2005

Honoring Walt and Ginny Chadwick, dedicated community members and loyal supporters of the The Outing Club. Walt, a WWII veteran and local business owner, and Ginny, a teacher and homemaker, shared a passion for youth sports and community involvement. Their family’s legacy continues through this fund, which supports OC programs and initiatives, inspiring future generations to embrace the values of teamwork, sportsmanship, and community spirit.

Remembering Alex Gissler, a bright and adventurous young life cut short. Born in New London on July 29, 1989, Alex was a beloved member of our community, passionate about sports, the outdoors, and his family. He spent years playing lacrosse and basketball at the New London Outing Club, and worked at Baker Hill Golf Course. Alex’s infectious smile and love for life inspired all who knew him. This fund honors his memory and spirit, supporting initiatives that bring joy and connection to our community.

Honoring Bub Morgan, a passionate lacrosse enthusiast and dedicated leader. Born July 8, 1944, Bub played multiple sports and fell in love with lacrosse at Bucknell University. He introduced lacrosse to the Outing Club, serving as coach, president, and board member for over 20 years. After a courageous battle with cancer, Bub passed away on April 21, 2021. This fund supports youth lacrosse programs and park maintenance, continuing his legacy and love for the sport and community.

Honoring Kent Woodward, a young life cut short in a tragic accident on Mount Washington in 1967. Kent, a Cub Scout and Little League baseball player, left a lasting impact on his community. In his memory, his grandparents donated land to the OC, which became Woodward Park, home to The Kent Woodward Little League field. This fund, established with memorial donations, continues to support various OC needs, ensuring Kent’s legacy lives on through the joy of sports and community connection.
