Knight’s Hill: A Sanctuary for Wildlife, a Solace for Humans – All Year Long
Blanketed with snow, the meadows, forests, and creatures of Knights Hill Nature Park enjoyed a restful winter. Plenty of humans spent time in the park based on the snowshoe prints along the trails all winter. How incredible that we have this beautiful natural space in which the plants and animals flourish all year long! While they do what they naturally do, we humans walk about and enjoy the peace, solace, and joy of such a special space.
“Knight’s Hill Nature Park is a 74 acre natural habitat set aside as a sanctuary for the protection of wildlife in the center of New London, NH. It has a secondary purpose as a quiet and peaceful retreat for people to enjoy the aesthetic and scientific study of nature.” (from the park map brochure).
Seems more rare these days to have places that are dedicated first and foremost to the plants and creatures (wildlife) that dwell there. How lucky we are that, long ago, the founders of the park valued creating and maintaining a sanctuary for wildlife.
As winter melts away, water begins to flow. Birds return and become active. Hibernating animals emerge. The park is a special place to feel the effervescent energy of springtime. We hope you will enjoy a walk through the park to revitalize your soul as you also emerge from winter’s rest. Watch for announcements coming soon for summer activities in the park! We would love to hear from you! Did you walk through the park this winter? If so, tell us what you saw, heard, or enjoyed.
